British Farrier Diplomates in Inaugural Pledge to Uphold Profession and Equine Welfare Standards

Graduate farriers in Great Britain recited the inaugural pledge to their profession.
On February 28, the Worshipful Company of Farriers and the Farriers Registration Council, held a ceremony in the Long Room of the Honourable Artillery Company, London. That day,  44 new farriers – including two women – were admitted to the Farriers Register of qualified farriers allowed to shoe horses in Great Britain.

The graduates are now allowed to use he title of DipWCF (Diploma of the Worshipful Company of Farriers) after their names, and to begin their new careers in earnest.

Once their diplomas, signifying the end of four years of on-the-job apprentice training and college courses, were presented, the new graduates did something that no farriers had ever done before.

Having been presented with their diploma certificates by the Master, Sir Evelyn Webb Carter, the farriers were lead by the Company’s Beadle in the declaration:
"I solemnly and sincerely declare that I will pursue the work of my craft with diligence and integrity, maintain the established standards of the farriery profession, and accept the professional responsibilities now entrusted to me, and that my constant endeavour will be to ensure the welfare of horses committed to my care."
Ten farriers were also presented with the Associateship of the Worshipful Company of Farriers during the ceremony, including two Americans: Jeremiah Daniel Harris and Richard Mike Poe.
